Rules
Normal Sudoku rules apply.
Clones: 2x2 areas which are shaded in the same color contain exactly the same digits in the same relative positions. The areas are marked with letters for readability.
Kropki Dots: Digits separated by a white dot are consecutive. Digits separated by a black dot have a 1:2 ratio. Not all dots are necessarily given.

that was good, but what a grind - I got it in the end but after a *lot* of back and forth. feel like I missed a key aspect to the approach

I think the hardest part might be figuring out how the blue clones get filled. There is a step mid-solve where you can figure out that only a certain kind of digit can go into these clones. If you miss that one, it might turn into a bit of a grind, as you called it :D
