Moby Zip

(Published on 16. September 2026, 20:00 by sujoyku)

I set this puzzle for the Impostor Prompt 2026. It was my attempt to create a puzzle in the style of the fabulous DubiousMobius. I knew that his puzzles all look incredibly well and was also impressed by the crazy topologies (like Mobius strips, Tori, Klein Bottles) DubiousMobius often used. So I tried my hand at a Mobius grid with Zippers and Cloning Arrows. I am quite proud of this puzzle, nevertheless it did not come too close to fooling people. DubiousMobius set one of his patent Phantoms puzzles and „defended his name“ already by rules and looks alone. You can find his stunning puzzle The Mason’s Jar here.
I am thanking all who tested my puzzle and wish you joyful solving!

Rules:

- Sudoku: Place the digits 1-9 once each in every row, column, and box.

- Mobius Grid: The grid is a mobius strip. The edges of the grid wrap around, such that the top row is adjacent to the bottom row. More precisely, the left end of the top edge wraps to the right end of the bottom. This is reflected in the matching letters/colors.

- Zippers: Along a purple line, any two cells an equal distance along the line from the center cell will add to the digit in the center cell.

- Cloning Arrows: If an arrow is present in a cell, its digit N must repeat at a distance of N cells in that direction.

You had such an impossible task yet you executed on it with so much care and effort. A noble attempt and a wonderful puzzle.

Thank you for your kind words, ViKingPrime! I am glad that you liked this puzzle. To be honest, I was quite sure I was up to an impossible task when I saw my assigned impostee, but with setting a puzzle that DubiousMobius approved of, I still have achieved my main goal.

Joyful solve. Very lovely puzzle. After the first digit, I found the rest of the break-in a bit tricksy, but it flowed very very smoothly once I placed a few more digits. One of those puzzles where I felt sad when I had used up all the clues, knowing it must end before long. Thank you, sujoyku!

You are much welcome, palletpusher, thank you for your comment! I am glad that you had a joyful solve.

This was very approachable considering the names attached. Actually it was so smooth that i got stuck in the middle when i had to make a slightly harder step. You lulled me in.

**
Thank you for your comment, Gnubeutel! Given how intricate DubiousMobius' puzzles often are, it might have ended up being even too approachable? :)
Kind regards, sujoyku
