This puzzle is the first puzzle in a series called "Cards on the table". It is intended that you play the series in the correct order and engage with it's narrative along the way. Otherwise, you will not be able to reach the end. You can still play the puzzles in whatever order you'd like, and you don't have to understand the story to complete them, except for the finale. The story is delivered in halves, the first half being here on LMD, and the other half can be found by copying the pastebin link shown on Sudokupad when the puzzle is solved.

My Dearest Dakota,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. I'm counting on the raven to arrive swiftly in the northerly winds just one week before our star-crossed wedding. Oh, how my heart yearns for that fateful day when our union is sealed and the rest of our lives can finally begin.
Although we had little choice in the matter, I believe it was divine fate that brought you to me. We have only met but a few times, but in those brief exchanges I have come to admire your grace and kindness with which you regard those close to you. The roads between our kingdoms seem vast, as more and more often I wish you were here for me to hold you in my arms. It is why I patiently await our wedding day, where our great houses shall be joined in an eternal pact, sealed in obsidian, and from it we shall forge our own kingdom. I have chosen the finest diamond in all the lands to adorn your ring, befit for only the finest princess.
As we make our respective preparations, know that although it is a busy time for us, I spend every waking moment running to you.

Very interesting constraint, once you get used to the rules it becomes very smooth. Nice puzzle and story :)
