The Perplexities of Henry Dudeney

This is my tribute to a puzzle maker from another era. I hope you enjoy it. As always, feedback is welcomed and encouraged, so please leave a comment below with your thoughts.

  • Normal Sudoku Rules: Fill each row, column, and 3x3 box with the digits 1-9 once each.
  • White Kropkis/Black Kropkis: Digits in cells separated by a white dot are consecutive. Digits in cells separated by a black dot have a 1:2 ratio.
  • Dudeney Cages: Digits in cages must be unique Dudeney numbers with the digits in reading order (left to right, top to bottom) within the cage. Dudeney numbers are numbers whose digit sum cubed, equals themselves. eg. 512 = 5 + 1 + 2 = 8 and 8^3 = 512, so it is a Dudeney number. Digits may repeat in cages if allowed by other rules.

"Digits in cages must be unique" ??? No it's not one cage has a duplicate

(lgastako): The rule states that "digits in a cage must be unique Dudeney numbers" meaning you cannot use the same Dudeney number in two different cages, not that the digits of the Dudeney numbers are unique. It also specifies "Digits in cages may repeat if allowed by other rules." to clarify this.

Interesting idea. But once you write in the dudeney numbers it almost immediately turns into a simple plain sudoku.
