Hitpoint Arrows

(Published on 25. August 2026, 03:12 by damo_89)

This puzzle definitely did not start after I tried solving Hitcount Arrows by juggler and mis-read the rules. Turns out that Hitpoint Arrows also work as a viable constraint. Good luck!

  • Normal sudoku rules apply: Place the digits 1 to 9 once each in every row, column, and 3x3 box
  • Hitpoint Arrows: A digit on an arrow is the sum of all digits that are the correct number of steps away from that arrow. For example, if the digits in the direction of an arrow were 32947 then the arrow would contain a 6 (2 + 4) because the 2 is 2 steps away, the 4 is 4 steps away, and all other digits are the wrong number of steps away.

Rule Example

  • The 5 in R1C1, looking south-east, hits the 1 which is 1 step away, and the 4 which is 4 steps away
  • The 7 in R9C9, looking north-west, hits the 3 which is 3 steps away, and the 4 which is 4 steps away
  • The 4 in R7C7, looking north-west, hits only the 4 in R3C3 which is 4 steps away

Solution code: Row 7

Lovely stuff! :)

I was genuinely confused when you said this was how you "wrongly" interpreted juggler's rules, because this is also exactly how I remembered juggler's rules - haha.
