A digit in a large diamond indicates the number of cells it can see in its row and column that are larger than itself, where digits smaller than itself block vision.
A small diamond separates two digits whose difference is a multiple of three.

I wouldn't quite say "approachable", but certainly enjoyable!
I liked that I never quite felt stuck because there were so many easy-to-investigate paths in front of me. Scratching at the surface of any of them would always give me just a bit more information and I was able to carve the solution out of the block of ice after a good 45 minutes!
