I want to acknowledge sujoyku. Next week's Flat Mate uses this constraint, and is a collab with him. We independently came up with this twist on "Sum to 9" and this is my attempt at a version with no Flat Mates.

Normal Sudoku rules apply
Place the digits 1-9 so that they do not repeat in any row, column, or 3x3 box.
N's Neighbour Sums
A clue outside the grid at Row N/Column N indicates the sum of all digits that are orthgonally adjacent to N (the row/col number) in that respective row or column.
For example, if Row 3 reads 246835791 then the N's Neighbour Sum clue would be 13=8+5.
Hint to start
There are a few clues that should be quite easy, R2 and C2; then R8 and C8; then C9. Second hint is the first tricky spot.
The first tricky spot is then 7 in Box 9.
Visual Example (4x4):
In Row 1, N is 1, and the digits next to N are 3 and 4.
3 + 4 = 7.

I seem to have solved it without the given 3 - I wonder if I imagined a solution. I did struggle - a lot - but it was fun a rewarding. Thanks!

This was really interesting and fun puzzle.
There are so many clues that you never really hit a brick wall, but it did take a 3* worth of time.

Thanks, struggled for an hour without the given 3, then started all over again with the given 3, reused the logic and solved it in 20 minutes. Guess it's a 3/5 still, nice logic once you wire your brain correctly !
