Peas de Résistance (with Oddlyeven)

(Published on 26. July 2026, 16:44 by SamuPiano)

Long ago, Henry 'Pi' James mentioned to me that there was a certain pea-themed title that I would have to find a puzzle worthy to take. Working with Oddlyeven, we have constructed such a puzzle! We hope you enjoy!

CHAOS CONSTRUCTION: Put the 1 to 9 once each into every row, column and region. Each region is an orthogonally connected group of 9 cells that must be determined by the solver. Three boundaries between regions are already given.
SPLIT PEAS: The sum of the digits on a line strictly between two circles is equal to a concatenation of the two digits in the circles, in some order. For example, 1-346-3 would be a valid line as it sums to 13 which is 1 concatenated with 3.
CIRCLES: Additionally, a digit in a circle at the end of a line counts how many cells on that line are part of the same region as it, including itself. Treat multiple lines coming out of the same circle separately.
SQUARES: A digit in a square counts how many cells in its region are part of split peas (this includes circles).

You can play the puzzle by clicking on the image!

Happy solving! We hope you enjoy this one!

Solution code: Row 9, from left to right, with hyphens (-) at region borders.

Awesome puzzle. Hard to admit but rather 4* to me since the solve path is so fluent. Brilliant setting thx.

Lovely puzzle at the lower end of 5/5 - really neat logic with the squares and the split peas and the region building. The couple of times I was temporarily stuck it was because I had forgotten a rule - and I am learning to read the rules again more quickly than I used to, so nothing held me up for long.
