This is my response to Scojo's setting prompt for this week, for which gdc requested a 2-star difficulty chaos construction, though I think I may have overshot the difficulty a touch!

Massive thanks to the incredible SennyK for testing not one, not two, but three versions of this puzzle, each at least a little harder than the version you'll be solving!

Play on SudokuPad

Chaos Construction: Divide the grid into eight 8-cell regions, and fill each cell with a digit from 1-8 such that there are no repeats in rows, columns or regions.

Circles: The digit in a circle shows how many cells in its region are in the central 6x6 area of the grid (i.e. not the perimeter). No two circles contain the same digit.

Solution code: Column 1 (leftmost), top to bottom

If you get on the right wavelength I think this is closer to a 2 than a 3, but beautiful nonetheless

I think it takes a 3* level of chaos construction knowledge to break in, but the logic repeats in a very satisfying way after that! Loved it

Brilliant puzzle. The trick is finding the right entry point—once you do, everything starts to unfold. 3★ from me.
