For this Sudoku Variants Project I have planned to publish a unique Sudoku variant every week.
N-Sums - skyscrapers
Inspiration for this type comes from 真笑.
Solve online in Sudokupad.
I will see how long it takes before I am running out of ideas.
Apply classic sudoku rules.
Clues outside the grid indicate the sum of the first N digits from that side in the corresponding row or column.
Each digit in the grid represents a skyscraper of that height. N is the number of visible skyscrapers from that vantage point. Higher buildings block the view of lower buildings.
Example: 18 | 452791836 | 17
From the left four skyscrapers can be seen (4,5,7,9) so the clue represents the first four digits: 4+5+7+2 = 18.
From the right three skyscrapers can be seen (6,8,9) so the clue represents the first three digits: 6+3+8 = 17.
Solution code: Column 2

A wierd rule that warps the brain for a bit, trying to work through combinations of pencil marks. Then there is one key technique that took a while to bring into focus and then it was quite staightforward.

Took some time to get my head around this constraint. Some time later I found a horrible mistake in my solution. The second attempt worked to my satisfaction. Thank you very much for creating and sharing another great SVS-puzzle.
