Independence Day Sudoku!
(Published on 1. July 2026, 23:59 by debabrata)
This puzzle was created to mark India's 80th Independence Day. India became independent on 15/8/1947. I originally wanted to upload this on the 15th of August, but I thought it might be better to get some feedback before I show this to my friends or share it for publication.
Puzzle Rules:
Fill the grid with digits 1 to 9, so that each digit occurs exactly once in every row, every column, and every 3x3 box.
Orthogonally adjacent cells must have a difference of at least 3. Example: 2 and 4 can't be next to each other. 2 and 5 can be. The blue cell can only contain even numbers.
Note on the Puzzle:
The puzzle also has a unique solution without the "blue cell" restriction, but I felt that the solve path became a bit too tedious. I'd love to hear your feedback! Please also let me know whether you think I should omit the blue cell restriction.
Solution code: Column 3.

Hi! Thanks for all your comments!
We don't have enough solves to see how many of you liked the puzzle/how hard you found it.
But I appreciate all of you who gave it a try and solved it!
I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you once again!

the blue cell helped me on my accidental bifurcation path to solving. I have trouble with puzzles like this though, I have to do some bifurcation for contradiction multiple times along the way, just to narrow down possibilities. I am sure there's a more elegant way, particularly after seeing the solution. I don't know if that is useful feedback on the blue cell.

The blue cell really isn't necessary.
