Count Some Dominoes

(Published on 10. June 2026, 18:28 by mellowrobinson)

This one is on the harder side of 3 stars difficulty, but I didn't feel it was quite 4 stars. Your mileage may vary, but I hope you enjoy the puzzle!

Chaos Construction:

  • Divide the grid into nine orthogonally connected regions, and fill every cell with a digit from 1-9 so there aren't repeats in a row, column, or region.

Domino Counters:
  • A domino is two cells that share an edge.
  • The digit in a caged cell indicates how many dominoes entirely within its region sum to the indicated total. Dominoes that are only half in the region don't count. A cell may belong to multiple dominoes.
XV:
  • Digits separated by an X sum to 10, and separated by a V sum to 5.

Solution code: Row 7, with a dash for region borders. e.g. 123-45-678-9

Beautiful puzzle! I agree with the "harder side of 3 stars" judgement.

3* for me. It was fun especially how I recovered from my mistakes. Beautiful!

I agree with your description, it's on the upper end of 3* difficulty, based on my completion time at least, or maybe it just suited my strengths. Nonetheless, it is a most beautiful puzzle.

Great puzzle! The finish was certainly 4 stars, but the rest was so smooth that I averaged it to 3. Thanks

Thank you very much for creating and sharing this lovely CC-puzzle. Normally I give more stars than the average, but this was a clear 3* for me. Very smooth solve path, though the finish got a bit tricky.
