Intersecting Summits

Normal sudoku rules apply.
Hidden Summits: Many cells are shaded. The sequence along both the row and column of a shaded cell must be ascending or descending, with 1 and 9 reversing the ascension/descension. (eg if digits along the row of a shaded cell are 2-5-6-9-8-7-4-3-1, the sequence is ascending until the 9 causes a descension).
Digits on an arrow indicate the distance to a shaded cell in that direction. If multiple shaded cells are in that direction, the arrow may indicate the distance to any of those shaded cells.
Thermometers: Digits along a thermometer ascend from the bulb.

Solution code: Row 1

@ScatterBrain
The logic you said was great, you just got a little confused by the end.
The row starts increasing, reaches the 9, then it decreases, reaches the 1, then finally it ends by increasing. You didn't break the puzzle.
