The one and only sum

(Published on 4. June 2026, 18:48 by Lithium-Ion)

This puzzle has been my fourteenth feature on Cracking the Cryptic (click here to see Mark solving it). I hope that the "same sum constraint" inspires more setters in this lovely community! Feedback is always greatly appreciated! The rules are as follows:

Normal sudoku rules apply. Cells separated by a black dot contain digits that are in a 1:2 ratio. Cells separated by a white dot contain consecutive digits. Neighboring digits along a green line must differ by at least 5. Neighboring digits along an orange line must differ by at least 4. A pink line contains a set of non-repeating consecutive digits in any order. Along a gray thermometer, digits must strictly increase from the bulb end. Each set of three consecutive cells along a peach entropic line must contain one low (123), one medium (456) and one high (789) digit. Box borders dive the blue region sum line into segments with the same sum. The sum of all digits that belong to one constraint type (e.g. all digits on black dots) is the same for each of the eight constraint types in this puzzle and must be deduced by the solver.

It only took me multiple hours of trying before I recheck the rules and found out I did not understand them correctly.... Haha

Really like the constraint, would like to see it in some (slightly) harder puzzles perhaps.

Edit: just seen your second puzzle, will give it a go!

Very clever constraint, and one that makes for a satisfying 1-star break-in. Wonderful puzzle.
