Triangular Growth

(Published on 2. June 2026, 20:32 by balpha)

Normal Sudoku rules apply.

Every line has a beginning and an end. The direction is to be determined by the solver.

Starting from the beginning, split each line into segments. The first cell is the first segment, the next two cells are the second segment, the next three cells are the third segment, and so on.

All segments on a line have the same sum. This sum may be different for different lines.

Great ruleset. Maybe 2*, though.

[balpha:] Thank you! And yes, I agree. My rating was 2* as well.

Great puzzle! I think it’s a classic case of 2* break in and a 1* solve.

[balpha:] Thank you, happy you liked it! And yeah, that's a fair point on the rating discrepancy.

Very lovely puzzle, NOWHERE near a 1*, very solid 2*.

[balpha:] Thank you so much! And yes, I would agree. I published this as a 2*, but the majority seems to feel differently.

That went surprisingly smoothly! I was worried I'd be completely lost as to where even to start, but there was never really a point where I was hard stuck - just had to check other lines to see what was going on.
Really cool variant!

[balpha:] I love this kind of feedback, thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!

super cool new rule! i hope we see more of this

[balpha:] Thank you! I agree, I think there might be potential with it, especially in the hands of a less novice constructor than myself.

Mmmm.... nice arithmetic exercise with smooth flow the whole puzzle through. Might have to make some triangular sandwiches now... :-)

[balpha:] Haha, high praise indeed, thank you! Curious to see what you come up with.
