- Normal 9x9 sudoku rules apply.
- Adjacent digits on a german whisper line differ by at least 5.
- There is one invisible german whisper line in the puzzle. This line only moves orthogonally through the center of cells, does not branch or cross itself, and has endpoints at the two squares.
- The line passes through all circles, and a digit in a circle counts how many of the (up to 8) surrounding cells the german whisper line passes through (not including itself).
- The inequality sign points to the lesser of the two digits it sits between.
