A Complex Puzzle (6x6, Complex Numbers)

(Published on 15. May 2026, 13:41 by Dr Logic)

Preamble

Not too much to say about this puzzle, had the idea the other day and acted upon. This is the result. There is no answer check, for obvious reasons.

A table has been provided for your convenience, use it how you wish (colours, letters, numbers or not at all!)

A colourblind friendly grid has also been provided, each contour has been numbered.

    Happy solving!

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules somewhat apply.
  • Choose and place 6 pairwise distinct digits, each taking values of the form x+iy, where x and y are from the set [-1,0,1], such that no value may be repeated in any row, column or marked 2x3 box. The 6 digits are the same for the entire grid.
  • Values along a marked contour must sum to the sum of the values placed in all marked singularities contained by the contour. Singularities are given by small black dots in some cells.
  • Values separated by an "=" have identical moduli. Not all =s are given.
  • Values in a killer cage cannot repeat and sum to the given total.

Updated rules to hopefully avoid further confusion

This went a lot smoother once I properly read the rules to see that the entire puzzle shares the same 6 values, rather than a quattroquadri-like ruleset.
I appreciate the way you set up the notes area; it made thinking about the relationships between numbers a lot more convenient.

Fun puzzle, very cool concept! Was a bit mindbending at first, but flowed very smoothly after the break-in :)
