U-Bahn Building Walk Permaculture
(Published on 10. May 2026, 13:30 by Andrewsarchus)
Rules:
- Permaculture:
Divide the main 16x16 grid into two orthogonally connected regions.
(One U-Bahn region and one Building Walk region).
- Outside Clues:
No need to divide the outside clues.
The clues which correspond to crosses and branches apply only to the U-Bahn region.
The clues which correspond to straight segments and turns contain two numbers:
The upper left number applies to the U-Bahn region, and the lower right number applies to the Building Walk region.
In both cases, the outside clue indicates how many times the corresponding line shape (i.e. a cross, branch, straight line, or turn) appears in the applicable permaculture region's corresponding row or column, irrespective of the line shape's rotation.
- U-Bahn:
Draw a totally connected loop network through the centers of some cells, which may branch or turn, but may not have any dead ends.
- Building Walk:
Draw a path through the centers of some cells.
The path must start at the cell marked with an "S" and end at the cell marked with a "G", and must not branch nor cross itself.
All clued cells inside of the 16x16 grid ("S", "G", numbers, and triangles) belong to the Building Walk region, and each clued cell must be visited by the path.
There are five floors, numbered 1,2,3,4,5 and the path may only enter a numbered cell when it is on the corresponding floor.
The path can only change its floor number by visiting an Elevator.
An upward pointing triangle is an Up Elevator.
The path can only enter an Up Elevator is it is not already on the top floor
(floor 5), and after exiting the elevator, the new floor number must be any floor strictly higher than the previous floor number.
A downward pointing arrow is a Down Elevator.
The path can only enter a Down Elevator if it is not already on the lowest floor
(floor 1), and after exiting the elevator, the new floor must be any floor strictly lower than the previous floor.
The floors corresponding to the "S" and "G" endpoints are to be determined by the solver.
In this puzzle, the Building Walk path uses some of the outside clues to indicate the number of turns and straight segments in various rows and columns (see "Outside Clues" above).
The Endpoints at "S" and "G" are treated the same as empty squares by the outside clues (they do NOT count as straight segments)
- Interactions:
Cells in each region which are orthogonally adjacent to cells in the other region must not be empty.
The Building Walk floor numbers clues inside of the 16x16 grid also indicate how many cells in the surrounding 3x3 neighborhood belong to the U-Bahn region.
Solution Check:
Use Green Lines to draw the U-Bahn network and Building Walk path.
Use Green Edges to draw the permaculture boundary.

Solution code:
Column 5
Use
L : for Turns,
I : for Straight Lines,
T : for 3-way Intersections,
X : for Crosses
E : for Empty Cells
Use dashes to indicate borders between the two permaculture regions
Example: TXIIL-LLILL-LXL-IEE
