Cornered

(Published on 6. May 2026, 02:05 by Liamhere)

Rules:

Standard Sudoku: Fill the grid with digits 1-9 such that no digit repeats in any row, column, or 3x3 box.

Hidden Cages: The solver must locate ten 5-cell cages in the grid. Digits within a cage must not repeat. The sum of the digits in each cage must be the same, to be determined by the solver. Cages do not overlap, must not share an edge but may touch corners.

Quads: Every corner where two cages touch is marked with a Quad. The two digits in the Quad must appear in the surrounding four cells and must be inside a cage.

Solve on Sudokupad

Solution code: Digits in Row 1 inside the cage (left to right)

Wonderful. And lovely that it has 10 unique pentominoes. (all of them except for I and V). Presumably you found this arrangement first, and then built the puzzle? I wonder if there are other arrangements for 10 unique pentominoes (other than flipping the one in box 1)

Given that this is only a 1-star puzzle I think the rules should add that each quad marks a corner where two cages touch (rather than simply stating that all corners where cages touch are marked with quads)

Maybe it's just me, but I struggled in the beginning because the rules said that all corners have a quad, but it wasn't clear to me that all quads were necessarily a corner (For example, a quad could have been entirely contained within a cage). I figured it out eventually, but I think it would be nice if that was clarified in the rules. Nonetheless, great puzzle!

Just like when entering the solution code, it helps to read the entire instructions!

(I overlooked the end of the quads rule and it slowed me down)

Lovely puzzle, thank you

TQ for the puzzle. This is super fun! I spent lots of time at the beginning punishing myself for not reading the rules ×_×

Great puzzle! But shouldn't there be a quad between box 4 and 8?

Haha you're right, i totally missed it. Thanks!
