(Published on 6. May 2026, 06:05 by ThePedallingPianist)

Set for The Skunkworks League, a brilliant setting competition organised by the equally brilliant Damaso.

Play on SudokuPad

Outer Grid

SNAKE EGG LOOP:
• Shade some cells to form a Loop which does not branch or touch itself orthogonally;
• An orthogonally connected area of unshaded cells is called an "Egg" (which may be any size and not necessarily unique from other Eggs);
• Each Arrow is either entirely on the Snake Loop or entirely in an Egg.
____________

Inner Grid

SUDOKU:
• Fill each cell with a digit from 1-6 such that no digit repeats in a row, column or box.

WHISPER LOOP:
• Shade some cells to form a "Whisper Loop" which does not branch or touch itself orthogonally;
• Adjacent digits on the loop must differ by at least 3.

KROPKI:
• Digits separated by a white Kropki Dot are consecutive;
• Not all Kropki Dots are necessarily given.
____________

Interaction

EGG MATCHING:
• Each Egg must match a digit on the Whisper Loop in the same order;
• E.g. if, from an arbitrary starting point on the Snake Loop, the Eggs arrived at (orthogonally adjacent to the Snake Loop) in clockwise order are of sizes 1, 5, 2 and 6 respectively, then the Whisper Loop consists of the digits 1, 5, 2 and 6 going clockwise from an arbitrary starting point.

ARROWS:
• An Arrow that exists entirely within an Egg must be copied into the Inner grid without rotation or reflection, such that the digit on the Whisper Loop matching that Egg is somewhere on the Arrow;
• An Arrow that exists entirely on the Snake Loop must not be able to be placed anywhere in the Inner Grid without rotation and reflection such that the clue is correctly filled;
• Digits on an Arrow sum to the digit in that Arrow's bulb.

Solution code: Bottom row of the Inner Grid followed by bottom row of the outer grid, with "S" for Snake and "E" for Egg. e.g. "123456SSSSSSEEEEEE"

I somehow managed to upload an early draft of this where the kropki dot has to be copied in from the outer grid according to certain rules, but I think this is much smoother!

Truly a rare egg! This shouldn't even be possible, but it works beautifully
