a gentle dissolve

(Published today, 05:15 by aqjhs)

It is ChinStrap's birthday! 🥳
Here's a squishdoku to celebrate.

  • Place the digits 1 through 9 once each in every 3x3 box, without repeats in any row or column. Cells on region borders (dashed lines) are shared between multiple boxes.
  • Full Quad-Rank:
    • All the 2x2 areas of the grid, when read in western reading order, make a total of 36 four-digit numbers.
    • Clues in the center of a 2x2 area show its rank among those 36 numbers, where the lowest is 1 and the highest is 36.
    • One or more equal numbers are considered to be at rank N when there are N-1 numbers of strictly lower rank. (For example, we say there are three numbers in rank 20 when there are 19 numbers of lower rank and the next rank will be 23, i.e. the ranks could go ⋯, 19, 20, 20, 20, 23, ⋯)

Really really nice. If you are used to thinking about squishes it is a shockingly smooth ride. If not it'll take a bit longer to start but then you get to join the shockingly smooth ride after.

Thanks so much aqjhs! I loved it.
