Cursed Sudoku

(Published on 1. May 2026, 00:00 by NXTMaster)

One of my early inspirations for setting Sudoku was the Miracle Sudoku by Mitchell Lee and others. Back then, I wanted to answer the question "What would an anti-Miracle Sudoku be?" One headache led to another until finally my inexperienced self managed to set this puzzle. I present the third puzzle I ever made back in mid-2021.

The rules are as follows:
  • Place the digits 1-9 once in every row, column, and region.
  • Asocial Digits: The digits 4, 6, and a third digit all obey both the anti-knight and anti-king constraints (for instance, a digit 4 may not be a chess knight's move or chess king's move away from another digit 4).
  • Pro-King Digits: Three other digits must always see at least one identical digit a chess king's move away except when in a green cell. Green cells may only contain these three digits.
  • Pro-Knight Digit: A seventh digit must always see at least one identical digit a chess knight's move away.
  • Bystander Digits: The remaining two digits have no additional properties. They are as confused as you are.

The puzzle is available on SudokuPad. Apologies in advance!

Solution code: A cursed puzzle requires a cursed solution code. The three pro-king digits in descending order followed by the two bystander digits in ascending order followed by the pro-knight digit.

LOOL, of course I messed up ascending and descending order in the solution code...
I mean one only has so much brain matter... and this puzzle has used up a significant amount ;-)
Lovely puzzle btw, really enjoyed that

Well it seems I had the right blessing to solve this cursed sudoku.

However I'm still a bit confused about those Bystander Digits :)
