Chin's Traps

(Published on 5. April 2026, 16:56 by ChinStrap)

An older Scojo prompt was to make something punning on your name or using rules that match your initials. I had already done Chinmax Skystrappers but at the time juggler made a joke I should do a puzzle called Chin's Trap. I never quite was sure what I'd do with the title, but finally landed on this. Thanks to all testers and I hope you enjoy!

Rules
  • Normal sudoku rules apply on the inner 9x9 grid.
  • Numbered Rooms:

    • All outside cells on a line must contain a digit. That digit must also appear in the Nth position looking into the grid in the row/column, where N is the digit in the first position.
  • Tentropy Lines:

    • Every set of 4 adjacent digits on a hollow peach line must contain a digit from each of the X-pair (ten-pair) subsets of {1,9}, {2,8}, {3,7}, and {4,6}. A 5 may not appear on a tentropy line. Digits on a line may repeat if allowed by other rules.

All feedback (positive or critical) appreciated!

Solution code: Box 3, in left to right reading order (9 digits)

Thank you very much for creating and sharing this unusual puzzle. I really enjoyed solving this, though it was quite hard for me to follow my own confusing pencil marks…

I like this very much! Low 3*. Thank you!

The tentropy lines were much nicer to work with than I was braced for, and it was fun finding all the little tricks!

I really hope I did a bad job of solving this because my coloring was an absolute nightmare and I never felt like I really knew where to look next, since the interactions felt very nonlocal. Spent way too long with 6 different colors to represent my inability to disambiguate the pairs, and was only able to collapse them to 4 right at the end.
