The combination of region borders and cages creates a confusing grid--but the clues are necessary. The yellow scattered cells are colored for clarity. When solving, I always color the irregular regions, but I left them uncolored so you can choose your palette.
There are nine irregular regions in this puzzle (eight connected regions, and one yellow scattered region).
Place the digits 1-9 once in every row, column, and irregular region.
Digits do not repeat in a cage and sum to the number given.
The nine cages correspond to the nine normal 3x3 boxes. Each cage contains every unique digit in that box.
Solution code: Column 7 top to bottom.

I suggest adding a 3x3 box next to the grid for drafting
--Thank you, I wondered if it would be helpful to take notes on the side to solve this puzzle, but I'm not actually certain how to include an extra box/grid.
