Lohkous Fillomino
(Published on 15. March 2026, 09:00 by Agent)
Rules
- Fillomino: Divide the grid into orthogonally connected regions such that no two regions of the same size share an edge, and enter a number into each cell equal to the size of its region.
- Lohkous Arrows: An arrow indicates that the adjacent cell in the direction of the arrow is in a different region. Additionally, the number in the cell with the arrow acts as a Lohkous clue for the adjacent region, that is, the number in the cell with the arrow must correspond to the length of at least one run of consecutive cells (vertically and/or horizontally) in the adjacent region. All possible arrows are given.
The diagram below shows the length of all horizontal runs of cells (left side) and all vertical runs of cells (right side) in a sample region. Any cell orthogonally adjacent to this region would have an arrow pointing towards this region if and only if the number placed in that cell is a 1, a 3, or a 4.

This is just stunning. It feels completely unapproachable at first, but once you tune into the Lohkous logic, everything begins to unfold in a deeply satisfying way. There are so many elegant interactions throughout, but the final cell resolution is an absolute blast - truly phenomenal construction. The use of negative constraint is especially impressive. Hats off to you, Agent!

I read the rules, noted the negative constraint, opened the puzzle and noticed the relative dearth of clues and knew I was in for peak Agent shenanigans. Boy was I not disappointed
