Bounded Territories

(Published on 13. March 2026, 15:39 by masetab)

This is the eight installment in my "Territories" puzzle series.

Play the sudoku here:

Sudoku Pad

I also created a 6x6 grid version which you can complete if the 9x9 is too daunting or as a warmup (estimated 1-2 for difficulty).

Warm-Up Puzzle (6x6 Grid)

Rules:

Normal sudoku rules apply: Fill the grid with digits 1–9, so that each digit appears exactly once in every row and column.

Divide the grid into regions consisting of orthogonally connected cells. Each region must contain exactly one circle. The number inside a circle indicates the number of cells in its region. Digits may not repeat within regions.

The number in the circle also equals the difference between the largest and smallest digit in that region. E.g., a valid region could contain {1,2,4,5} with the 4 in the circle since 5 - 1 = 4.

A blue dot between two cells indicates the cells belong to different regions.

Region borders divide each blue line into segments with equal sums. Different blue lines may have different segment sums. Each blue line passes through at least two regions.

The warmup is harder than the actual puzzle.

Really good! The sudoku interacts well with region-building. I enjoy this more than having them separated like in "Smaller".

Made a very slight change to the placement of a blue dot to make the endgame slightly easier.
