[TSL][S2T1] Turn 1

(Published on 14. March 2026, 01:00 by yttrio)

This was my entry for turn 1 of season 2 of The Skunkworks League, hosted by damasosos92. In this round, the prompt was to create a puzzle using a given set of clues as the starting point (some lines, some skyscrapers, and some small squares).

Rules:
Latin Square with Overlaps: Every little square is the center of a 3x3 box. Fill the grid with the numbers from 1 to 9 so that in each row, column, and aforementioned box each digit occurs exactly once.

The digits in cells containing squares must form a complete set of the digits 1-9.

All lines in the grid are both renban and double arrow lines. Digits on renban lines form a set of non-repeating consecutive digits in any order. Digits on double arrows lines sum to the same total as the digits in the attached circles.

Digits outside the grid are skyscraper clues. They give the number of digits in the row or column the clue 'sees'. Digits obscure smaller digits from vision.

Most enjoyable puzzle I’ve solved in quite a while. However, my last 6 digits (8&9 in columns 7,8,9) seemed ambiguous. I had to guess at those. Probably just missing something?

A little tough for a 3*, imho.Yet maybe too easy for a 4*!?

@Cerafim:
No, it's not just you.
Without the clarification the puzzle isn't fully disambiguated. The circles need to be part of the renbans, otherwise there seem to be multiple solutions.

Maybe it's just me, but felt it was unclear whether or not the circle digits count as being part of the renban or not. Because the rules stated that the circles are "attached" i assumed they're not, and got stuck with wrong deductions
