A Peak, a Shrine, a Jug of Wine... 3.14159

(Published on 14. March 2026, 12:00 by 72kchunshuai)

Happy Pi Day! This title is inspired by a famous Chinese mnemonic poem for π: "山巅一寺一壶酒,尔乐苦煞吾" (which roughly translates to "A peak, a temple, a jug of wine; You rejoice, but it tortures me"), where the pronunciation of each character corresponds to a digit of π. I'm not sure if there is an official translation.

Rules:

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.
  • Peak: There exists a specific cell acting as a peak. The digits in all 8 directions (horizontal, vertical, and diagonal) must strictly decrease as they move away from this cell.
  • Shrine: The up-to-8 cells surrounding the peak form a shrine. These cells must collectively contain all even digits {2, 4, 6, 8} at least once.
  • Wine: The digits in cells R6C7 and R7C7 must be consecutive.

the conditions are far more restrictive than is immediately obvious, realized once you start to study the problem
