Someone asked for more “Kings”… so I made another one.
Here is
King Kublai and his archers.
Hello.
Normal sudoku rules apply.
Each box has a King represented by the digit that matches its box number. The digits needed to complete an entropic set and a modular set are rooks.
Entropic sets are low (123), mid (456), high (789).
Modular sets are mod1 (147), mod2 (258), mod0 (369).
(In box 1 the digit 1 is the King and 2, 3, 4 and 7 are rooks because 2 and 3 complete the entropic set and 4 and 7 complete the modular set.)
There is only one King in each row, column and box. Additionally, the nine King positions form a disjoint set, meaning no two Kings may occupy the same relative cell within their boxes (for example, two Kings cannot both be in the top-left cell of their respective boxes).
No King must be in check by a rook within the same box.
Digits on an arrow sum to the digit in the attached circle.
Have fun.
Solution code: Row 9, first 6 digits.

Smoothest of the kings puzzles for me. Helps that I'm starting to understand the restraint better of course, but this one felt like it had a clearer solve path. Very nice and indeed not too difficult.

Thanks for your comment. I very much agree. I did a lot of case checking on many different arrow shapes so you wouldn't have to. Grts -Jonesy.

I ment to post this as a 2 star puzzle. It may end up as a 3 star but it's actually easier than it looks at first. The placement of the arrows should keep case checking to a minimum. Hope you enjoy!
