Chaos Construction: Summon

(Published on 1. March 2026, 15:03 by Myxo)

Rules:

Chaos Construction: Divide the grid into regions of 9 orthogonally connected cells each, such that every cell is part of exactly one region. Place the digits 1-9 exactly once in each row, column and region.

Summon: Contiguous blocks of digits within the same region in a row or column form numbers by reading left to right or downwards, respectively. Clues outside the grid are equal to the sum of all such numbers within the corresponding row or column.

Cipher: Each letter represents a unique digit from 0-9. Questionmarks represent any digit from 0-9. Leading zeros are not allowed.

Fantastic. The sum sums is a very fun hidden rule. Perhaps that is why you named it summon

Absolutely brilliant. Took me probably about four and a half or five hours, and every time I made a discovery my first thought was "why didn't I see that sooner?". It's always sign of a great puzzle that you *like* being stuck on it.

Brilliantly hard - so many tricky things to work through, but everything fair. Several "aha!" moments as the next logic emerged.

Brilliant puzzle! Thankfully I remembered some useful math properties from a long time ago to understand what was going on to start this puzzle. Everything after that was so well thought out and set, that it blew my mind. It took me ages, but I loved the journey. Thanks

That was really, really satisfying. Not easy, but once I'd figured out the unwritten "rules", every significant step was a piece of logic rather than case-testing, so it never felt like work. Thanks very much for setting it.

I look forward to seeing Simon crack this puzzle and reveal a new(ish) Secret(TM). :D
