Oh, Hi Mark!

(Published on 26. February 2026, 13:08 by gdc)

This puzzle was created for the "escape the grid" theme week of the sudoku adventure series. Thanks to my fellow adventure setters for testing and to rangsk for solving it. You can watch the solve here.

Normal 6x6 Sudoku rules apply. Place the digits 1-6 exactly once in every row, column, and 2x3 box.
Numbered Escape Rooms: Fill each door with a digit. That digit repeats N steps away in its row or column, where N is the closest digit in its row or column.
Quadruples: A circle that touches 4 cells (2 inside cells and 2 doors) is called a "quadruple". Each digit in a circle must appear at least once in the 4 cells touching it. If a digit appears twice in a circle, then that digit must appear at least twice in the 4 touching cells.

@Jasperrr: I can see your point. But "first cell in the row" could also be interpreted as "first from the top/left" which is why I described everything in terms of distances.

Maybe update the wording to: "where N is the first digit in its row or column.".

That's the generic rule as described in other puzzles. The "closest digit" adds some confusion.

I like how there are no clues for 5 or 6, but they find their rooms anyway
