Apochromat (Masyu RGB)

(Published on 22. February 2026, 19:09 by dumediat)

This is a puzzle that I created for wisty's birthday last year, and she was kind enough to suggest that I share with all of you as well. Thank you for being one of my closest friends in this community!

Ratings, comments, and feedback are much appreciated! Please feel free to reach out to me on Discord if you have any comments or questions. Please also feel free to try my other puzzles here.

Rules:

  • Standard masyu rules apply: Draw a non-intersecting loop through the centers of some orthogonally connected cells that passes through every pearl. The loop must turn on black pearls and travel straight through the cells on either side. The loop must go straight through white pearls and turn in at least one of the cells on either side.
  • Each pearl must be assigned a color from red (R), green (G), or blue (B).
  • Pearls divide the loop into segments. Each segment has a color equivalent to the combination of the colors of the pearls on its endpoints. Colors are combined as follows: R + R = R; B + B = B; G + G = G; R + G = yellow (Y); R + B = magenta (M); G + B = cyan (C).
  • All square labels must be visited by a segment that matches its color. A segment may visit more than one label provided each label along the segment is valid. Not all segments must visit a label.
  • 'I' is an irrwisch, and represents a different color each time it appears.

Note: For solution check to trigger, the loop must be drawn in green, and each pearl must be shaded either red, blue, or green.

Solution code: For each row from top to bottom, the number of turns the loop makes in that row.

Great! Took me a while to find out where to start, and then a few tricky steps along the way. Some really cool loop deductions here. Thanks :)

Thank you so so much for the gift! It was the perfect kind of challenging and colorful puzzle that I needed to inspire me to get back into solving puzzles again. Really cool concept. Loved the opening and ending especially.
