As Sweet as Sugur(u)

(Published on 4. February 2026, 11:47 by Chilly)

As recently promised, I'm posting my next puzzle here today. This is a Suguru variant, with only one region of each size in the grid, inspired by quite a few other puzzles, but particularly one by AnalyticalNinja, and Math Pesto. I'm setting it at 4*, based on testers recommendations, but feedback suggests it's somewhere between 4* and 5* - we'll see. Please enjoy.

The Rules:

  • For each digit, N, where N is from 1 to 9, there is exactly one region in the grid of size N. Each region of size N comprises all of the digits from 1-N. No two regions may touch each other orthogonally. Digits may not repeat in any row or column. All digits must belong to a region.
  • Dead ends: a cell containing a large square is in a region, and is a dead end - a dead end in a region is a cell that is attached orthogonally to at most one other cell in its region.
  • Open ends: a cell containing a large circle is in a region, and is an open end - an open end in a region is a cell that is attached orthogonally to more than two other cells in its region.
  • Parity: digits in a cell with an orange shape must be odd, and digits in a cell with a blue shape must be even.
  • Cages: digits in a cage must sum to the total in its top left corner. Digits may repeat in a cage, if allowed by other rules. Non-region cells may be in cages, in which case they count as zero.

Outstanding! I was stuck for quite some time, but I struggle with the type of thinking that this puzzle requires. I enjoyed figuring it out immensely

Thanks! Glad you liked it.
