Pioneering

(Published on 26. January 2026, 23:50 by ThePedallingPianist)

This is my response to Scojo's setting prompt for this week, which began as a joke by TonberryJava about how sudoku variant rules had become so ridiculous that the next invention could be some kind of "pi ratio line"... aqjhs subsequently redeemed this as a prompt.

Play on SudokuPad

Normal 6x6 sudoku rules apply.

Region borders split coloured lines into distinct segments. Adjacent segments on a line must have sums in a ratio strictly between 3:1 and 4:1 (not equal to 3:1 or 4:1).

Love it when you open a puzzle and the first thought is “lol, wtf?“.

Then you trink about it a bit and it becomes smooth sailing

This puzzle was an absolute delight! I love the interesting logic that comes from this line, and the puzzle had a nice solving flow. (And it was easy but not as trivial as 6x6s can sometimes be. But now I'm curious what it would be like in a 9x9!)

Great puzzle! I loved the logic throughout this, especially with the orange line!

Surprisingly smooth, despite me having to do simple maths over and over, because i forgot how to guesstimate fractions.
