Your Best Shot? (Hitpoint Sudoku)

(Published on 18. August 2026, 04:30 by tallcat)

I had never heard of Hitpoints as a constraint until I had solved a puzzle with them on stream about a year ago. While I was interested in setting with them, it took me about six months to get around to it (and then another six months to publish). The basic idea for the opening was in my mind for a while even then - but as often is the case, progressing beyond that was the sticking point. Hope you enjoy!

Normal sudoku rules apply

Hitpoints: Clues outside the grid give the sum of all digits in that row/column which equal their distance from the clue.

Can be played online at f-puzzles or Sudokupad

Solution code: Row 5 (left to right). 9 digits, no spaces.

Letting the solver deduce the new logic by solving makes a brilliant puzzle. Awesome setting thx.

Great! If finding the break-in logic, it will be smooth

First time solving with this constraint - hopefully it won't be the last! Really neat logic in this one.
