Fortress Fillomino - Index Lines (6x6)
(Published on 13. January 2026, 18:56 by ThePedallingPianist)
Yes, I'm aware this first edition was not published on a Friday! This was originally a response to a Setting Saturdays prompt from
Scojo, but after setting this I realised I'd stumbled upon a very fun genre, so I'm challenging myself to make a little series out of it!

FORTRESS FILLOMINO:
• Divide the grid into orthogonally connected regions and fill each cell with a number (not necessarily single-digit) showing the number of cells in the region to which it belongs;
• Each region must be either strictly larger than all of its orthogonal neighbours or strictly smaller than all of its orthogonal neighbours.
INDEX LINES:
• A value, V, in the Nth cell of a turquoise line (starting from the diamond) indicates that the Vth cell contains the value N.
Solution code: Column 1 (far left), top to bottom (6 digits)

Hey, thanks for the amazing puzzle as usual. Did you forget to change the "Dth" to "Vth" in the updated rule of index lines?

Oops good point, thank you! And thanks for solving! :)

Rules updated as per Nell's point! (Previously Index lines referred to digits rather than values)

I got sidetracked with wondering if a two-digit number on an Index line could count its two digits separately ^_^; But eventually I reasoned the grid would probably be larger if that were the case... I might play around with that double-digit idea though!

TPP: That's a very good point and honestly not one I considered well enough when writing the rules! I'll reword... but also, yes - that would make for a very interesting alternative ruleset! Thanks for streaming it! :)

Fascinating! The fortress rule works so nicely, I'm hoping for a larger sequel :)
