Lines Under the Boxy Fog

(Published on 19. January 2026, 10:00 by FIT7Y)

Rules:

Place the digits 1-9 once each into every row, column, and 3x3 box.

The grid is partially covered in fog. Fog can only be cleared by correctly placing all nine digits in a 3x3 box, which will clear the fog from that box.

If two digits are separated by a black dot, one digit is double the other.

The following clues must satisfy each of the following conditions. Lines travel orthogonally through the grid (never diagonally), without branching or intersecting any line (including itself). Every line must be contained in exactly three boxes and cross exactly two 3x3 box borders. Excluding the single line decorated with squares, no line can be the same length as another line.

Thermometer:
Digits along a Thermometer increase moving away from the bulb.

German Whisper:
Adjacent digits along a (green) German Whisper line differ by at least 5.

Parity:
Adjacent digits along a (red) Parity line must have different even/odd parity.

Region Sum:
Box borders divide (blue) Region Sum lines into segments which each have the same sum. Different Region Sum lines may have different sums.

Same Difference:
Every pair of adjacent digits along a (yellow) Same Difference line has the same difference. Different Same Difference lines may have different differences.

Absolutely loved it! Probably 2.5 difficulty for me, But figuring out where each line had to go, even when I could see only a few cells of it, was really nice and solved smoothly. Took me 50 minutes. Thank you for the excellent puzzle.

Very nice puzzle. Not as hard as it seems at first glance.

nice interplay between the lines and the length of the lines. I was stuck in the last line as I couldn't see a way fowrward without doing some level of back tracking
