You Sunk My Pairdoku (Round 1)

(Published on 1. January 2026, 00:08 by juggler)

This is a two-player competitive Sudoku! When you and a friend are both ready, you should each open ONE of the links below:

Grid A ------------- Grid B

Normal 8x8 Sudoku rules apply. Both players' grids have the same solution, so all clues are valid in both grids.

SHIPS
- Digits on ships increase towards the bow (the pointy end).
- Both players have the same kinds of ships. Ships are oriented orthogonally, and a player's ships never overlap each other (but may overlap the opponent's ships).

GAME PLAY
- You can do Sudoku whenever you like.
- Take turns naming a coordinate (e.g. "B6"): the other player must say "hit" if they have a ship in this cell, or "miss" if not. Be careful to make sure you've heard each other correctly, as a mistake can ruin the game.
- Use red and blue coloring to track your hits and misses in your opponent's grid.
- If a cell on your ship is hit, mark it with a red X. When all its cells are hit, you MUST say "you sunk my [ship name]", and announce the direction the ship pointed.
- The winner is the first player to correctly complete the Sudoku grid (regardless of whether they sunk all their opponent's ships). If you think you've completed it, say "Done!" and show your solution to the other player. If no clues contradict your solution, you win (otherwise you lose).

I played this with a friend and was confused for far too long thinking "Juggler must've put a clever break in!" but just not seeing anything. It took us until one hit away from sinking all of each other's ships to realize... she had the bows and sterns swapped round! Hope to see more in this style so I can give it a real go.

That was such a cool idea, so much fun to play Battleship in a sudoku grid, highly suggest grabbing a friend and trying this out.
