Checkers

(Published on 29. December 2025, 13:17 by Arlo Lipof)

Welcome to the final moves of a quite balanced game of checkers. You'll have to know the basics of this famous board game (also known as draughts) in order to solve this Sudoku puzzle (if that's not the case, you can quickly read the rules here for example).

As you can see below, both you (Red) and your opponent (Blue) have 5 pieces left on the board, but you have 3 kings (marked by a +) while your opponent only has 2 (Fig. 1). It's Blue's turn to move. Your goal is to turn a probable draw into a certain win for Red (Fig. 2)!

(Fig. 1) Start: Blue's turn to move (Fig. 2) End: Blue moves and loses

Rules:

  • Sudoku. Place the digits 1-8 once each in every row, column and 2x4 box.
  • Arrows (Jumps). Digits along an arrow must sum to the number in the attached circle. Digits may repeat on an arrow if allowed by other rules.
  • Cages (Order of play). The board is partly divided into six 4-cell cages (from A to F) containing one or more pieces, and their corresponding 1-cell cage. The digit in this 1-cell cage indicates the order (from 1 to 6) in which the game needs to be played according to the given arrows, e.g. if area A should be played first, B second and say F last, the 1-cell cage A should contain the digit 1, B the digit 2 and F the digit 6.
