Wichtels Rätselherbst 2025 (14 und Schluss): Eisbahn auf dem Weihnachtsmarkt
(Published on 18. December 2025, 20:25 by wichtel)
To Christmas 2024 some eager puzzlefriends have again arranged a group in which everybody had to make anonymously a puzzle for someone else. These puzzles are now presented one after the other here in the portal.
Finally, the time has come: Wichtelheim has scraped together enough money to redesign the torus-shaped Christmas market grounds. The main attraction will now be the 12 ice rinks, which don't touch one another — not even diagonally — and represent the 12 pentominoes. Unfortunately, the planning has been dramatically delayed, but that's just how things are in some towns. Luckily, the ice rinks can still be used in February. Today, the plan will finally be handed over to the construction company LUPO ("Lighthearted Utilitarian Projects Office"), which is supposed to start construction immediately. The following regulations must be observed:
A loop must run through the entire Christmas market, starting and ending at the marked landing area for the reindeer sleighs (which is, of course, located on a land cell). The circular path crosses all land cells exactly once, with the exception of the cells with the yellow gnome punch signs (i.e., the sign cells are land cells, but they are skipped). The ice cells do not all have to be crossed, and the path may cross itself there. The path always runs straight through ice cells.
The red cells are all on land, and that's where the 30 Wichtelheim brass bands play, all of which must be visited once along the loop path. Unfortunately, the quality of these brass bands is somewhat questionable, which is why it is necessary to have a gnome punch before visiting each brass band (but only one, even if you go around the loop multiple times!!!). On some brass band cells, the number of land cells on the segment of the loop that visits this brass band is indicated.
The gnome punch is only available on ice cells, and these gnome punch cells must border the yellow signs at least diagonally. The signs indicate how many times you will consume a gnome punch, during a complete circuit of the loop, in the 8 neighboring squares surrounding that sign.
Of course, all the gnome punch squares will be visited.
That should clarify everything, and LUPO can begin construction. Good luck!
Solution code: The diagonal from top left to bottom right, using I for straight, L for
turn, X for intersection, and - for a cell without a path segment.
Then, on the diagonal from top right to bottom left, the letters of the
pentominoes that are used, ignoring any land cells.
