Parasite Sudoku: Larvae

(Published on 12. December 2025, 00:00 by NXTMaster)

This puzzle takes the Larva constraints found in Parasitic Destruction and Romantic Destruction and turns it into a standalone constraint. Hopefully this serves as an intro and practice before tackling the other puzzles. The other parasite sudoku can be found here: Parasite Sudoku: Adults.

The rules are as follows:
  • Place the digits 1-9 once in every row, column, and region.
  • Parasites: Draw parasites moving orthogonally through the grid that connect all circles that share the same digit. Parasites may not move diagonally, branch, or cross themselves nor each other, but they may touch themselves and each other otherwise. The start and end of each parasite must occur on distinct circles. Small white rectangles indicate cell borders crossed by a parasite or different parasites.
  • All parasites in this puzzle are larvae. Larvae must contain a total number of bends equal to the digit in its circles, and at least one of those bends must occur on a cell where its circle-digit appears outside of a circle.

The puzzle is available on SudokuPad and Penpa (answer check is on sudoku digits and parasites using the green line tool). Have fun solving!

Solution code: Column 2, Column 8 (Only cells occupied by parasites)

Very clever construction! Each step forward feels almost serendipitous.

Thank you. The regions make magic happen, but I am proud of the way the givens harnessed that magic.
