Easy Peasy Sudoku Advent (02) - Odd-Even Thermometers

(Published on 2. December 2025, 06:00 by Richard)

This sudoku advent calendar contains 24 variants that were included in my Sudoku Variants Series (SVS) but turned out to be too hard to be solved by a wide range of puzzlers. I aim for difficulties of 1-2 stars and have written some general and/or specific hints as well. I hope some players will try the original SVS puzzle #375 after solving the advent version.

Odd-Even Thermometers
Apply classic sudoku rules.
The digits in each thermometer are, from the bulb to the end, all different and placed in increasing order. Digits in a thermometer are either all even, or all odd.

Specific hint for this puzzle:

The digits on the two thermometers of length four in box 7 and 8 cannot have the same parity because of the position of the second halves of the thermometers. Therefor the two digits of R9C45 have to go in R78C1. None of these can be 1 or 2.

Solve online in Sudokupad or in Penpa+.

Schöne, mir neue Idee! Das ging, bis auf einen kurzen Moment als es ins obere Drittel ging, flüssig durch. Klasse Rätsel!

This one had a tricky break-in, but got much easier once I nailed down the parities of a couple thermos.

I already had solved the original, but didn’t remember… So I stared at the grid for twenty minutes until I suddenly realized how and where to begin. So smooth! Thank you very much for creating and sharing this lovely puzzle.
