Hmm. I spent some time staring at a half completed grid and said “this is a 1. I have no idea why, but it definitely is.” And it was. I’m not sure if my brain saw the pattern or not…

Wonderful idea which reminds me of a game called PIPES from the 1990s. Great graphics.
