Colours in the (k)night XX

(Published on 22. December 2025, 14:23 by Villse)

The 20th installment in the “Colours in the (k)night” series, and I’d like to thank you all for your comments on the previous puzzles! Even though I might not reply to all of them, they mean a lot and give me the motivation to keep making more puzzles for you guys. So, thank you and I hope you enjoy this next installment. :)

Links to the previous parts of the series are given after the rules.

Rules:

Normal Sudoku rules apply. Place the digits 1-9 once in every row, column and 3x3 box.

Anti-Knight: Cells separated by a knight’s move in chess cannot contain the same digit.

Palindromes: Digits along a grey line must read the same forwards and backwards.

Little killer: Digits along marked diagonals sum to the number indicated outside the grid.

Magic square: Somewhere in the grid lies a 3×3 magic square that contains all digits from 1 to 9 exactly once, and in which every row, column, and diagonal adds to the same total. It's up to the solver to determine the location of the magic square. (The magic square can occupy cells from different boxes.)

The coloring flowed smoothly and the finish was very satisfying, a triumph as always!

I did find this to be a bit closer to 3* compared to your more recent 4* puzzles, with the main challenge coming in the hunt for the magic square.

Easily, in my top ten puzzles of all time. The interplay between constraints is prodigious. Very well set! Thankyou!

Very very nice. Great setup as usual and then a magic square to finish up. Thanks!

that was AWESOME!

the 21 little killer felt like a mistake coloured in until I saw what it ACTUALLY does... brilliant!

The "Endgame" was quite hard for me tbh the rest was a nice and smooth colouring excercise. finding the position of the magic square and such.

Thanks a lot!!

Borderline **** difficulty for me. The way all the clues work together to reveal the digits at the end is just beautiful!
