i claim this puzzle is level 2. here's why.
i think level 2 MUST mean "easy for experts, but non-experts can do it, with effort".
there IS a directed procedure to solve this, with a set of "obvious" steps, all of which will be found immediately, or after a bit of searching.
1) Use the quads to restrict cells. best result is in box 4, where 4 can be located.
2) locate ALL the 4s.
3) find restricted cells. there is only ONE: r2c7 = {17).
3a) track this around the grid.
4) look for somewhat restricted cells. there are several, but the one that matters is r1c3.
4a) it must be high.
4b) therefore the digit from step 3 is 1.
4c) track 1 around the grid.
5) track 7 around the grid.
The rest is basic sudoku, within the context of the variants in play.

wow! very fun and challenging. It took me a bit and I thought I was going to be stuck a few times.

Maybe I missed something obvious, but getting through the break in took me well over an hour so at least 3* for me. I enjoyed it though, thanks for sharing.

Enough in that break in to justify a 3 star, the rest is clean and relatively easy.

Very nice puzzle, great theme! Based on my solve time 2 to 3 stars for difficulty. Some clever deductions needed for the actual break-in and some sneaky knight move logic to finish. Thank you

One star? you've got to be kidding...

Brilliant puzzle which put up a good fight until the very end, but definitely not a one star puzzle.

olima: Thanks for your nice comment. I completely agree with you, but that’s the LMD system… I see it in the 2-3-star-difficulty range, but that’s just my personal view.
