Intro to Meta-Deductions

(Published on 24. October 2025, 04:25 by eap314)

I was going to make a big sudoku hunt, but I decided to split it into chunks to make it smaller, more enjoyable, and harder to get stuck. This is the first of the puzzle packs, and introduces the solution ruleset.

In order to make link clicking easier, the puzzles do not go in order (some of them are linked in the solve message), but all puzzles can be found when you’re ready to play them.

This pack is semi-instructionless (similar to Shape Fight but mostly explained), and it requires meta-deductions (also explained in the pack). Feel free to play the pack and see if you like this kind of puzzle. If you do, check back for the next pack release.

Suggestion: Disable the conflict checker, at least for the puzzles without region checking.

Puzzle pack links:
Intro (you are here)
Ambiguity
Cross-link (coming soon?)
River
Pointer

Solution code: The entirety of Partial, in reading order. Feel free to copy from the solve message, if SudokuPad allows.

Critical fix, and some region checking. Puzzle progress won't be saved. Old link: https://sudokupad.app/skhpbbhd0s

Very interesting concept! Extremely annoying, however. The inconsistency in whether or not sudokupad properly handles the irregular areas, plus the wildly varying difficulty, make it feel more like a chore than an adventure or puzzle.
Still, might give it another go whenever I have an hour or two to kill jumping between tabs.

On the note of difficulty, most puzzles should be a bit difficult. I hope it plays just a little nicer now.

Whew, that was a ride! Games where you figure out the instructions as you go have never been my strong suit, but I appreciate the amount of hand-holding you included, enough to make it accessible for someone like me who struggles with stuff like this, but minimal enough that I could still experience that feeling of satisfaction when I finally had a breakthrough (which made all those feelings of annoyance that preceded it worthwhile...I was stuck at the very beginning on Green 1 for embarrassingly long).

I think my favorite puzzle was the very end (Partial & the puzzle it linked to) but of course those wouldn't have brought so much of a smile to my face without all of the leadup of slowly deciphering how this all works. I'm trying to decide which was my second favorite but there's so many they're kind of blurring together...probably Meta 3 and the chain it linked to. Thanks for putting this together!

Thank you for the wonderful comment! You solved it very fast. I'm glad I made Partial silly enough to be different.
Edit: I can see why you were stuck on Green 1. It was actually unsolvable. That's been fixed.
