Wichtels Rätselherbst 2025 (3): Eine schwierige Zusammenarbeit

(Published yesterday, 20:25 by wichtel)

To Christmas 2024 some eager puzzlefriends have again arranged a group in which everybody had to make anonymously a puzzle for someone else. These puzzles are now presented one after the other here in the portal.

The gnomes Wechtel, Wochtel, Wachtel, and Wuchtel gathered around Santa's fireplace awaiting instructions from Santa on what kind of puzzle to make for the Christmas child, Egnat.
"What is Egnat's favorite puzzle genre?", Wechtel inquired.
"Surely A38", Wochtel boldly proclaimed, confident in Egnat's love for complexity and loop puzzles.
"A38?", Wachtel sneered. "Not a chance. He prefers Fillomino, have you ever looked at the puzzles he has created?"
"I believe he has a soft spot for Yin-Yang", Wuchtel said with great sagaciousness and calm. "After all, Yin Yang was the first puzzle type Egnat found great success with."
"Quiet! All of you!", Santa boomed. "The answer is Summation U-Bahn."
"Summation U-Bahn?! You mean the genre that only he himself has ever created? Surely that was not a fair question, that puzzle type isn't even officially established!" Wachtel looked completely bewildered.
"Indeed that is the case," Santa sighed. "However, narcissism isn't so great a sin that Egnat deserves a lump of coal this year, or even worse, a Sudoku." The gnomes nodded in agreement.
Wuchtel stood up. "Very well, we will begin construction at once. However, I believe that for each cell the loop network fails to visit, we should place a number from 1 to 7 such that no number repeats in any row or column."
"How are we to determine which number goes where?", asked Wechtel.
"Simple," Wuchtel asserted. "We treat this as a standard Japanese Sums puzzle, and we mix in the Japanese Sum clues with the Summation U-Bahn ones, and then sort them in ascending order."
"Brilliant!" Wochtel looked elated. "As a final touch, I think we should encrypt the clues. Santa, do you have any suggestions?"
Santa thoughtfully sat for several minutes before giving his answer. "You may proceed as standard, but please refrain from encrypting the numbers 12 or 25. The sanctity of Christmas must be preserved, after all. Those, at least, should be left as question marks."
The gnomes promptly began work, all spirits lifted by this festive task.
