Friend Or Foe

(Published on 15. October 2025, 22:15 by Manta-Ray)

Chaos Construction: Divide the grid into 9 regions, each comprised of 9 orthogonally connected cells. Every row, column, and region must contain the digits 1-9 once each.

Arrow Clues: A cell containing an arrow defines either how many cells of its own region can be 'seen' (not including the arrow cell, and where region borders block vision), or how many region borders can be seen (not including the grid border), in the indicated direction. An individual arrow must NOT be correct for both conditions, i.e. an arrow cell containing a 2 may see 2 cells of its own region or 2 region borders - but not both.

Where a cell contains multiple arrows, each arrow is treated as a separate clue. For example, if R1C6 contained a 4, then it must see 4 cells of its own region or 4 region borders in row 1, and simultaneously 4 cells of its own region or 4 region borders in column 6.

Other Rules: A cell with a grey circle contains an odd digit. Digits in cells separated by a white dot are consecutive. Not all dots are given.
