Starry starry grid - [BYO Yajilin]

(Published on 6. October 2025, 04:17 by damasosos92)

This puzzle was made for the second round of PAC, a tournament hosted by Agent. The prompt was to set a puzzle that had two exact clones working on two different type of clues (lines and numbers in the case of my puzzle).

For they could not love you
But still, your love was true
And when no hope was left in sight on that starry, starry night
You took your life, as lovers often do
But I could have told you, Vincent
This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you

[Don McLean - Vincent, 1971]

Rules:

Build your own grid: Put all the twelve given 3x3 boxes inside the grid, one in each 3x3 cage slot, placing the clues accordingly. Different slots must contain different boxes, except for the two red colored slots that must contain the same box.

Yajilin: Place stars into some cells so that no two stars are orthogonally adjacent and draw a non-intersecting loop through the centers of all the remaining empty cells. Clues cannot contain stars, and represent the number of stars in a straight line in the indicated direction.

Grid borders block vision for the clues.

Clones: The two red colored 3x3 slots are exact clones for numerical clues and lines. This means that cells in their same relative positions must have the same numerical clues and the same loop segments.

No other clues can be added outside the 3x3 slots.

I used stars instead of shaded cells for yajilin for theming reasons, but feel free to use normal shaded yajilin cells to solve the puzzle if you prefer.
