Beginners Introduction to Variant Sudoku

(Published on 25. September 2025, 13:56 by Oatmeal)

Hello!
This collection of puzzles intends to be an introduction to some of the most common rules in variant sudoku that new solvers might encounter, however I think veteran solvers will enjoy it as well.

To get started, open one of the blue links in a separate tab to solve. When completed, move on the the next. The rules for each puzzle will be listed on these links and can be referred back to when necessary.

Happy solving!

Kropki Dots!

Thermometers!

Killer Cages!

X's and V's!

Put It All Together!

If you made it to the end, well done! Post your completion times for each puzzle in the comments as well as any feedback :)

Solution code: Enter the last digit (bottom right corner) of each puzzle in order.

07:11 for all puzzles combined for me. Very nice introduction.

Good beginner puzzles, but FYI I believe that in kropki puzzles a negative constraint applies, i.e all possible dots are in the puzzle. Normally I don't point it out in puzzles as people seem to leave that out more and more lately, but as these are introductory, I felt it worth mentioning. Sorry to be pedantic :)

Haha you got me, I forgot to change the image when I amended the puzzle. Fixed now

Thanks for doing these puzzles. I like to see some puzzles designed for newer solvers on this website. 6:01 for all puzzles combined, although I wasted a few seconds checking whether a thermometer was missing in the last puzzle compared to the image (It is, but it doesn't change anything)
